This is a long overdue post, but I wanted a permanent spot for it on the blog. I had a big piece of furniture that I didn't know what to do with, that had been sitting in our spare bedroom. When I found out we were pregnant with Tatum, I knew I had to get that room in order and purge a few things for baby furniture. I listed this eye sore of a piece on Facebook Marketplace for $50 and got zero hits on it. I gradually over the months marked it down, almost to the point where I was about to just give away for free- still not bites on it. After months of trying to get rid of it, I scrolled past a beautiful furniture piece on Pinterest that looked similar to this one, except WAY more expensive. It looked like a piece you could get from Crate and Barrel. I decided to use that photo as my inspo, keep this furniture piece and completely re-do it for my daughter's nursery!
Burlap Furniture Makeover
Friday, April 28, 2023
End result is everything I imagined it would be and more.
Here is the before:
Step one, we took out drawers and took off doors (I had help! Thanks mom)
took off all hardware.
Step two: Killz (red can) everything - We did not sand, I hate sanding.
Step three: White paint - many coats.
Step four: we sawed off the middle of the doors.
Step five: went to JoAnn's and bought our burlap. I ended up buying way more than I actually needed, but at least I have it incase the burlap ever gets damaged. So far (2 years later) we've been ok and it's still stiff as can be.
Step six: staple the burlap to the doors.
Step seven: Spray with fabric stiffener, many many times. I only needed one bottle, but did end up using the entire thing.
Step eight: attach the doors and attach hardware.
Wah-lah, that's it! All around a very affordable project and not super time consuming.
